Kataoka & Co, a 60-year-old Japanese trading company that specialises in food and beverage, became the first Japanese company in September 2018 to own 100% shares in an Argentine Grape Juice Concentrate facility, by buying Jugos y Vinos Andinos SA.

Kataoka started buying Grape Juice Concentrate from Penaflor in the early 70’s and pioneered the import of grape juice concentrate from Argentina into Japan.

collagePenaflor’s values of excellence and consistency in quality made them the first Argentine factory to export to Japan with the assistance of Kataoka. Over the years Penaflor exported more than 400 000 MT of GJC to Japan.

In 2007 Kataoka bought 70% shares in Penaflor’s Grape Juice Concentrate facility Penavid, and a new company was formed – Jugos y Vinos Andinos SA.

Kataoka implemented an integrated quality system with a sustainable program as well as the Japanese concept for improvement, called Kaizen, with technical support from Japanese customers.
